Optimizing milk analyzer performance with mid-infrared Fatty acids profile calibration sets

Fatty acid composition in milk plays a crucial role in dairy production, particularly for assessing nutritional quality, milk payment criteria, and herd feeding strategies. Accurate profiling of individual fatty acids—such as C14:0, C16:0, C18:1, and PUFA—is essential for optimizing product formulation and improving animal management. As with other key milk constituents, mid-infrared spectroscopy (MIR) is the preferred technology for high-throughput, cost-effective fatty acid analysis in routine laboratory and industrial applications.

To ensure the accuracy, reproducibility, and standardization of fatty acid profile measurements across instruments and laboratories, MIR analyzers like the DairySpec FT and FTS must be calibrated regularly using high-quality reference samples. That’s why Bentley Instruments has developed a dedicated range of fatty acid calibration sets—precisely formulated mid-infrared SRMs (Standard Reference Materials) designed to optimize analyzer performance and ensure consistent, reliable results over time.

Fatty acids profile SRMs for consistent and accurate mid-infrared calibration

Bentley Instruments’ fatty acid calibration sets consist of 8 cow milk samples (100 mL each), specifically designed for the calibration of mid-infrared milk analyzers. Each sample provides accurate reference values for key milk fatty acid components, including total fat, C14:0, C16:0, C18:0, C18:1, as well as SFA, UFA, MUFA, PUFA, De Novo, Mixed, and Preformed fatty acids. These mid-infrared calibration standards are store at cold positive and contain a stabilizer to preserve sample integrity over time.

Specifically validated for fatty acid profiles measurement in milk, these calibration sets provide optimal performance control for mid-infrared analyzers such as the DairySpec FT and FTS. They help ensure long-term calibration stability, improved analytical accuracy, and early detection of instrument drift.

The reference values for each fatty acid calibration sample are established using a certified gas chromatography method, widely recognized as the reference technique for milk fatty acid quantification.

Secure and scheduled shipment of Fatty acids profile SRMs

Our Fatty acids profile calibration sets are shipped monthly according to a predefined schedule. Each shipment is prepared in isothermal packaging with ice packs to maintain the cold chain and ensure optimal sample preservation. A sealed water bottle is included to monitor temperature stability upon delivery. All shipments are sent via express carrier for rapid and secure transport.
